Robert Rock's victory in his Abu Dhabi duel with Tiger Woods has powered him up the world rankings onto the verge of breaking into the top 50.

The Englishman was hardly troubled as he won the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship, and his reward is a move from 117th right up to 55th in the world.

American Brandt Snedeker, meanwhile, enters the top 20 for the first time after an equally stunning - for very different reasons - win in the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines.

Snedeker, who improves from 33rd to 15th in the rankings, triumphed in a play-off after Kyle Stanley, three clear on the final tee, ran up a triple-bogey eight.

Latest leading positions: 1 Luke Donald 9.75pts, 2 Rory McIlroy 7.98, 3 Lee Westwood 7.58, 4 Martin Kaymer 6.08, 5 Steve Stricker 5.84, 6 Webb Simpson 5.23, 7 Adam Scott 5.16, 8 Charl Schwartzel 5.07, 9 Dustin Johnson 4.89, 10 Jason Day 4.75, 11 Graeme McDowell 4.69, 12 Matt Kuchar 4.55, 13 KJ Choi 4.36, 14 Nick Watney 4.36, 15 Brandt Snedeker 4.04, 16 Phil Mickelson 3.89, 17 Tiger Woods 3.84, 18 Sergio Garcia 3.83, 19 Hunter Mahan 3.77, 20 Justin Rose 3.73.

Other leading Europeans: 21 Ian Poulter, 23 Paul Casey, 25 Alvaro Quiros, 26 Simon Dyson, 31 Robert Karlsson, 32 Thomas Bjorn, 34 Martin Laird, 36 Anders Hansen, 39 Francesco Molinari, 41 Fredrik Jacobson, 46 Peter Hanson, 47 Miguel Angel Jimenez, 49 Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano, 52 Darren Clarke, 55 Robert Rock, 57 Matteo Manassero, 64 Joost Luiten, 67 Alexander Noren, 71 Nicolas Colsaerts, 76 Edoardo Molinari, 78 Paul Lawrie, 79 Pablo Larrazabal, 85 David Lynn, 89 Carl Pettersson, 90 Padraig Harrington, 95 Gregory Havret, 96 Jamie Donaldson.
