The European Tour moves to the Middle East for the first of three straight weeks in the region.

As ever, the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship has attracted a strong field and this year it includes former world number one Tiger Woods, who makes his debut in the tournament.

However, Tiger is no stranger to the Gulf States having won the Dubai Desert Classic twice during his career.

He will also take heart from the fact that the first-ever winner in Abu Dhabi was fellow-American Chris DiMarco in 2006.

The 14-year-old layout has water coming into play on nine holes and is reasonably exposed to the elements.

So who's teeing-up this week?

Sergio Garcia: Rarely performs poorly in the Middle East. Back-to-back victories on home soil during autumn will have boosted the confidence of the 32-year-old Spaniard as he opens his 2012 campaign.

Padraig Harrington: Played well for three days in South Africa last week where he finished in a tie-for-10th after a disappointing closing 76. Has had two top-10 finishes in Abu Dhabi from four starts.

Martin Kaymer: The 'King of Abu Dhabi' who is chasing a third straight triumph in the tournament. His last four starts read: Won-2nd-Won-Won, while his victory margin in 2011 was a stunning eight strokes.

Rory McIlory: A brace of top-three finishes in each of his two most recent visits. It would be a massive surprise if the 22-year-old failed to find himself in contention this weekend.

Charl Schwartzel: Should be among the contenders after finishing fifth at Fancourt on Sunday where he missed out on a play-off by two shots.

Lee Westwood: A winner of two tournaments (South Africa & Thailand) in December, the 38-year-old Englishman opens his 2012 campaign in Abu Dhabi where he finished runner-up four years ago.
