McIlroy 9/4 not to win US Open with Sky Bet

Rory McIlroy has a record halfway score at the US Open, a six-shot lead over his nearest challenger and surely can't be caught now, can he? Sky Bet now have the Northern Irishman as the 1/3 odds-on favourite to win his maiden major title after taking Congressional by storm, while he is 9/4 to suffer another major heartbreak. McIlroy reached 13-under during his round, the lowest anybody has ever been in the tournament renowned for its toughness yet completely overpowered by the 22-year-old. With McIlroy so far in front on 11-under, Sky Bet have a market for betting without the runaway leader, which is unsurprisingly headed by YE Yang, who is 11/4 to finish ahead of everybody else bar McIlroy. Yang is on five under but is only a couple of shots ahead of Matt Kuchar, who is 8/1 in betting without McIlroy while Sergio Garcia, Zach Johnson and Brandt Snedeker are all 14/1 and Lee Westwood is at 16/1. Rory has the lowest halfway score in US Open history, and with him seemingly having the title all sewn up it may now be just a case of not if he wins but by how many! Sky Bet have odds on McIlroy's margin of victory at Congressional, with the USGA not pleased to have a double digit winner they seem set to toughen the course up, and the online bookmaker are going 7/4 that he will take the title by 0-4 shots. McIlroy's current lead would come under the 9/4 on offer for a 5-9 shot victory, while a runaway lead of 10 shots or more is 16/1 and mind-boggling 15 shot win or higher is at 25/1. Many people are hoping not to see a repeat of McIlroy's Masters shocker, but he is now 9/4 not to claim victory at the US Open. If you fancy McIlroy to lose it again in a major, there are some big prices around for alternative winners, with Yang 8/1 to overcome a six-shot deficit - he has done just that against Tiger Woods to win a major in the past! Kuchar is next best at 25/1 while Westwood is 40/1 to come from miles back and Garcia the same to complete a remarkable return to form with a first major title.
