The Arnold Palmer-designed Victoria course at Vilamoura hosts the final European-based tournament of the 2012 Tour schedule.
With three tournaments originally scheduled for Spain during autumn having to be cancelled, this week's Portugal Masters will be the final European Tour event to be staged on its home continent until the spring of 2013.
The Oceanico Victoria layout, which opened in 2004, hosted the World Cup of Golf 12 months later and for the last five years has been part of the European Tour.
This week's sixth instalment has attracted a decent field to the Algarve, with Palmer's layout laid out over a fairly flat terrain, although its greens are large and undulating.
The pros will have to contend with four lakes and numerous fairway bunkers.
So who's teeing-up on Thursday?
Rafael Cabrera-Bello: Runner-up to Tom Lewis in 2012, the Spaniard is now a world top-50 player.
George Coetzee: Tied third at Vilamoura 12 months ago and, in last week's Dunhill Links Championship, finished in a tie-for-fifth thanks to a closing 62.
Simon Dyson: Has not enjoyed his greatest-ever season but could prosper in this field. The six-time Tour winner's most recent top-10 came at Portrush in July.
Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano: The world No 36 was a winner in Italy last month and he certainly possesses the tools to cross the finishing line in first place.
Francesco Molinari: Has endured a solid but at times frustrating year although will still be on a high after Europe's Ryder Cup win. The Italian is a two-time runner-up in this event.
Alexander Noren: Three top-20 finishes at Vilamoura and was third in the Dunhill Links Championship last week.
