The iconic par three 7th hole at Pebble Beach

The PGA Tour returns to California for this week's AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am on the Monterey Peninsular.

Once again, the three-course tournament is being hosted by Pebble Beach Golf Links which first staged the event in 1947.

Back then it was called the Bing Crosby Pro-Am, with the famous entertainer's name being used in the title until 1985 - more than seven years after his death.

The two other courses involved are Spyglass Hill and Monterey's Shore Course.

Pebble Beach, the most famous of the venues, has also hosted five US Opens and one PGA Championship.

Built in 1919, it features some of the smallest greens in professional golf and remains the best known public course in the United States.

The equally rugged Spyglass Hill was designed by Robert Trent Jones senior and has been part of this tournament since 1967.

As for the Shore Course, this was opened 51 years ago and redesigned in 2003.

It re-joined the tournament rota in 2010 for the first time since 1977.

So who's teeing-up this week?

Dustin Johnson: Chasing his third victory in the tournament in four years. Has made a slow start to 2012 - following surgery in the autumn - but can not be ruled out at a venue that seems to bring the best out of him.

Jeff Maggert: His form is currently experiencing a minor renaissance. A brace of top-20 finishes during January, the 47-year-old was second in the Pro-Am eight years ago.

Phil Mickelson: Lefty's stuttering form took a slight turn for the better at TPC Scottsdale last week when he opened with rounds of 68-70-67 en route to finishing in a tie-for-26th. The 42-year-old is a three-time Pebble Beach champion.

Bryce Molder: Top-10 finishes in each of his last two Pebble Beach starts. Seems to enjoy his visits to California where he won last October and, more recently, was a top-20 finisher at Torrey Pines.

DJ Trahan: Last year it was DA (Points) who won the tournament, so how about DJ this week! Top-10 finishes in 2009 and 2010, plus a sparkling weekend in Phoenix where he finished fourth after closing with rounds of 64-66.

Tiger Woods: Making his first appearance in the tournament since 2002. Tiger is a two-time winner at Pebble Beach, once in the Pro-Am and also when the spectacular links hosted the US Open 12 years ago which he won by a staggering 15 shots. He finished third at the recent Abu Dhabi Championship on the European Tour.
