Alex Peters fired a course-record equalling 63 to move two strokes clear of Charley Hull after the second round of the Ladies European Masters.
The 21-year-old rookie followed up gains at the second and third with seven birdies on the back nine, to match the previous course record held by Ashleigh Simon and Caroline Masson during the tournament's opening round in 2013.
Peters' back nine 29 equals the all-time record on the Ladies European Tour, giving the Englishwoman the tournament lead for the first time as a professional.
"I just played absolutely amazing; I hit my irons so close and putted really well," Peters said. "I had a few other chances as well, but a 63 I'm really happy with.
"Seven birdies could have been eight. I left one right in the jaws on the 12th, the par 3, but I just putted really well, hit it close and gave myself chances."
Hull looked set to challenge for the outright lead after rattling in a hat-trick of birdies midway through her round, but drove in to trees on her final hole to close with a five-under 67.
"I feel like I was hitting it well out there today," Hull said. "It was a shame about my last drive. Apart from that, I feel like I'm playing solid and I hit a great drive into the eighth hole, but I just missed that putt, because I came up on it."
Overnight leader Sophie Giquel-Bettan completed her round in breezier conditions, three-putting the 12th and dropping a further stroke at the 17th on her way to a third round 70.
Thailand's Nontaya Srisawang, Germany’s Caroline Masson and Danish rookie Emily Kristine Pedersen, who graduated from high school last Wednesday, are tied on seven under, with Pamela Pretswell and Trish Johnson are level six shots off the pace.
