Jimmy Walker shoots 67 to lead after round two in Valero Texas Open

Highlights from round two of the Valero Texas Open at the AT&T Oaks Course in San Antonio.

American Jimmy Walker shot a second round 67 to lead at the halfway stage at the Valero Texas Open on Friday.

It was an impressive show by the local boy at TPC San Antonio with the FedExCup points leader bagging three successive birdies in a blistering four-hole stretch to open up a one-shot gap on overnight leader Aaron Baddeley (71) and Charley Hoffman (72).

Walker started the day with two birdies in his first five holes before recording his only bogey of the round on the par-4 17th hole when his seven-foot par putt slid by.

The 36-year-old closed his first nine with a birdie before making three more over the next nine holes, including a 19-footer on the par-3 seventh hole to finish with 5-under 67. 

Walker, whose putter has performed miracles on his opening two days, said: "I was just kind of around the hole, didn't make anything, and then finally got one to go on six.

"I've been working hard on my putting at home and it was ready to go this week. It feels like the hard work is paying off."

Jordan Spieth, who played with Walker and James Hahn, took advantage of benign weather conditions, carding five birdies to go along with two bogeys and finish the day two off the pace alongside Kevin Na (68).
