Former world No. 1 Adam Scott has announced that he has parted company with caddie Steve Williams.

The duo joined forces in the summer of 2011 and rapidly enjoyed success together with Scott going on to win the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational in August of that year.

In total with Williams on his bag, the Australian won four titles on the PGA Tour – including his maiden major at the 2013 Masters – while also topping the world rankings for the first time in his career earlier this year.

Additionally, the 34-year-old won back-to-back titles (Australian Masters & PGA) in his homeland at the end of last year, coming close to completing the ‘Triple Crown’ only to be narrowly denied by Rory McIlroy at the Australian Open.

However, with Williams, 50, confirming his previously stated intention to scale back his caddying commitments in 2015, the duo have decided the time is right to head in different directions.

Different priorities

"Our priorities and stages of life are different now, and so we decided that this is the best time to end our partnership," Scott said in a statement.

"Steve has been an integral part of my team in a period where I have fulfilled some of my lifetime golfing goals. His dedication and professionalism have been without question, and his friendship is highly valued."

Williams, who was on the bag for 13 of Tiger Woods' 14 career majors, said: "After discussing this in detail with Adam it became evident that my plan was not going to fit with Adam's requirements and so we decided to end our partnership.

"Having caddied for the first Australian to win the Masters is a career highlight and a memory I will cherish forever. If the right opportunity arose I would consider caddying on a part-time basis in the future."
