The PGA Tour has given Tiger Woods an extension to register to play in the US PGA Championship

His place in the field has been taken by America's Shawn Stefani, who leads the PGA Tour in total driving this season and lost to Justin Rose in a playoff for the Quicken Loans National in June.

Stefani will be playing in his first PGA Championship.

Toms won the tournament in 2001 by making par from the fairway on the 18th hole at Atlanta Athletic Club to beat Phil Mickelson by one shot.
