Mirim Lee made a dream American debut as she posted an opening eight-under-par 64 to lead the LPGA Founders Cup in Arizona.
The 23-year-old South Korean rookie was making only her third LPGA Tour start - and first in the United States - but starting on the back nine in Phoenix, she birdied five of the opening seven holes to reach the turn in just 30 strokes.
Her only bogey of the day at Wildfire Golf Club came at the par-five second - her 11th - hitting an amazing 16 greens in regulation.
Her nearest challenger is American Morgan Pressel whose 65 included a superb opening nine holes of 29.
Also teeing-off on 10, Pressel was nine-under for her opening 11 holes before back-to-back bogeys disturbed her momentum - she closed her round with five straight pars.
World No 1 Park In-Bee of South Korea was among eight players tied-for-third following a 66.
Among the others at six-under-par were Aussie Karrie Webb, Scot Catriona Matthew, Swede Pernilla Lindberg and Americans Michelle Wie and Stacy Lewis.
Park said: "I was hitting the ball good all day but just on the front the putts didn't seem like they wanted to go in.
"I holed some putts on the back nine so it was a very solid round."
