Suzann Pettersen: Beat Inbee Park by one stroke last year
Suzann Pettersen is looking forward to taking on a world-class field as she defends her World Ladies Championship title in China this week.
The Norwegian tees up alongside the likes of Inbee Park, So Yeon Ryu and Feng Shanshan on the signature Blackstone Course at the Mission Hills Resort.
Pettersen is determined to continue making inroads in the lead of Inbee at the top of the world rankings at the unique tournament which features three events in one.
As well as the individual professional competition, there is a team championship in which countries are represented by teams of two and an individual amateur tournament.
Pettersen held off Inbee to clinch a one-stroke victory last season, and she is relishing the challenge of retaining the title this week.
"It's fantastic to be back," she said. "I had a great time last year and everyone has worked so hard again to put on this tournament.
"It's a world class event and I'm looking forward to it."
Inbee, who stormed to the top of the world rankings with three major victories last year, added: "It's always a pleasure coming to Mission Hills.
"Last year I played well but one player happened to play better than I did!
"However, this tournament is not just about the result, it's also about having some fun and getting to know the other players. It's going to be a great week."
Feng scored a popular home win in the inaugural tournament two years ago, and she hopes to give her fans plenty to cheer again this season.
"I have very good memories of this tournament," she said. "The field is getting stronger each year, which makes it more difficult to win but that's great for the event."
The strong field also features the world's top amateur Minjee Lee, who clinched her maiden title in a professional event at the Victorian Open last month.
