The United States Golf Association has announced that international qualifying is to be introduced at this year's US Women's Open.

Qualifying will be held on May 19 at four venues, including one in England.

The selected locations are Nanshan International (China), Higashi Nagoya Country Club (Japan), Woo Jeong Hills (Korea) and The Buckinghamshire.

The USGA are yet to decide how many qualifying spots will be available for the championship to be held at Pinehurst, North Carolina, from June 19-22.

USGA president Thomas O'Toole said: "We have long been committed to presenting the US Women's Open as the premier event in international women's golf.

"With the addition of international qualifying, we are happy to expand the championship field to include more of the very best players from across the globe."

Korean players have won five of the last six US Women's Opens.

International qualifying for the men's version was introduced in 2005 and Michael Campbell took full advantage by qualifying at Walton Heath in Surrey and going on to win the tournament a month later - which was also at Pinehurst.
