A European Tour event will be held in Prague for the first time since 1997 next year and it will be staged at the Albatross course in the Czech capital.

The event will be held for at least the next five years and the first edition will take place between 21-24 August, with a prize fund of one million euros (£850,000), which will be one of the smaller purses on the Tour.

European Tour officials this week denied reports they may be bought out by the US-based PGA Tour and they are now delighted to have unveiled the new event, which will be known as the D+D Real Czech Masters.

European Tour chief operating officer Keith Waters says the deal represents "a real commitment and statement of intent by the sponsors and promoters".

He added: "Albatross Golf Resort is an excellent venue, worthy of hosting a European Tour event.

"The tour always strives to stage tournaments in different cities and I'm sure the people of Prague will enjoy watching some of Europe's best golfers in action, just as our members will enjoy their visit."

A great honour

Dr. Jiri Simane, owner of the resort, said: "I was very pleased to hear that the European Tour is coming back to the Czech Republic, and it is a great honour and privilege for us that Albatross Golf Resort has been chosen as the host venue.

"We have hosted the Ladies European Tour twice in the past, and have already started preparations for this important event.

"We will do our utmost to make this tournament successful, and I hope it will become a permanent part of The European Tour. We are all really looking forward to it."

The Czech Republic last staged a European Tour event in 2011, when Celadna hosted the Czech Open.
