Charley Hull is the youngest player ever to participate in the Solheim Cup but the 17-year-old is taking it in her stride.

The English girl from Kettering was given a wildcard pick by Liselotte Neumann despite having played just nine times as a professional and, understandably, will be watching the senior members of the side to see what can be learned.

Hull says she'll be keeping a particularly close eye on six-time Solheim Cup veteran Catriona Matthew.

"She's just so good," said Hull. "She was one of my idols when I was younger so it's an honour to be on the team with her."

Hull is one of six rookies on Neumann's team as they bid to become the first European side to capture the cup on American soil and the youngster said it would be "awesome" to re-write the history books.

Neumann is confident that Hull can play her part. "She's not scared, she absolutely loves being here," said the Swedish skipper. "She feels like this golf course sets up really well for her game. She's a pretty aggressive putter and I think she'll do really well here."

The Americans also have a teenager in their ranks - 18-year-old Lexi Thompson.

However, compared to Hull, Thompson is almost something of a veteran having qualified for her third US Open at the age of just 14! Thompson has also already claimed victories on the LPGA and LET.

US skipper Meg Mallon said: "I think Lexi's happy she's not the youngest player in the Solheim Cup.

"Even though Lexi's young, she's obviously a seasoned player. She's played in a lot of professional events and been on big stages. This will be the biggest stage she's ever played on but I expect really great things from her."
