Michelle Wie: Defeat will spark USA

Michelle Wie believes the feeling of despair felt after the 2011 defeat in Ireland will spur the USA to Solheim Cup glory this weekend.

The American won just one point from four matches as Europe stormed to a 15-13 victory at Killeen Castle in County Meath.

And with the States defending an unbeaten home record dating back six matches to 1990, Wie insists the team will be desperate to keep that run going at the Colorado Golf Club in Denver.

"Looking back at the last Solheim, it really sucked losing. It is the worst feeling I have ever felt," said Wie, who was one of captain Meg Mallon's picks.

"And I think that feeling has really motivated all of us to bring the cup back and we really want to win it."

Team-mate Jessica Korda, making her first appearance in the event, admits she is expecting a tough challenge from the star-studded European side.

And the 2012 Australian Open winner, daughter of former World No 2 tennis player Petr Korda, insists she will be giving every respect to the holders who are bidding for their fifth win in the 23-year history of the event.

"The worst thing you can do is underestimate your opponent," she said.

"You always need to think that they are going to be the ones who will be hitting it close and holing the putts."
