Tiger Woods: Hoylake's last Open champion
Thoughts have already turned to next year's Open Championship where Hoylake will host the event for a 12th time.
The Royal Liverpool venue saw Tiger Woods last triumph in 2006 and the club is looking forward to playing host once again.
The third golfing major of the year will return to Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Hoylake for the first time since 2006.
"It puts the area and the club on the map," said club secretary David Cromie. "It helps the club going forward because people want to play an Open venue.
"I come to work in the morning and the hairs on the back of my neck sit up. Where are you going to find a finer clubhouse and collection of golf memorabilia - only second to the R&A."
Last week's host course Muirfield drew criticism from the fact they still don't accept female members, in direct contrast to Hoylake which has welcomed women for more than a hundred years.
"Women have been welcome at Hoylake since the middle part of the 19th century," Cromie added. "This club is fully inclusive and complies fully with the 2010 equality act."
