Peter Hanson says he may play in the Singapore Open next week in an attempt to catch Rory McIlroy in the Race to Dubai rankings.

Hanson beat McIlroy by a shot in the BMW Masters in Shanghai on Sunday and moved from seventh to second in the Race to Dubai money list.

The Swede is now 812,573 euros behind McIlroy and is confirmed to play in the HSBC Champions in Shenzhen this week, followed by the season-ending Dubai World Championship from 22 November.

However, he may now join McIlroy in Singapore, in order to boost his chances of finishing the year as the top man on the European circuit.

"Now that I am that much closer to Rory, I have to give myself every chance of winning the Race to Dubai," said Hanson.

"I wasn't going to play the Singapore Open, as I was going to have that week off. But I will now sit down with my management team this week and consider whether I should play in Singapore.

"The thing is that playing in Singapore could make the difference in finishing my season first on the Race to Dubai."

McIlroy is absent this week and so a win for Hanson in Shenzhen would see him take over at the top of the standings.
