Lee Westwood fired a brilliant round of 61 to guarantee a final spot at the Turkish Airlines World Golf Final and will face fellow Englishman Justin Rose for the $1.5 million first prize.

Having overcome Hunter Mahan in his final group match on Thursday morning to book his place in the last four, Westwood found something like his very best form to see off Charl Schwartzel in the semi-finals.

The Englishman made a flying start against the South African with an eagle at the third, only to hand back both shots with a clumsy double-bogey at the fourth.

From that point onwards he was immaculate, though, and after birdies at six and seven he gave himself renewed breathing space with a second eagle at the ninth after holing his approach to the par-four.

Semi-final results

Lee Westwood (-10) beat Charl Schwartzel (-4)

Justin Rose (-2) beat Tiger Woods (-1)

Six further birdies followed on the back nine for the Englishman as he streaked clear of his opponent, eventually defeating the 2011 Masters champion (67) by six strokes.

Birdie blitz

The other semi-final was a much closer affair with Rose producing another late fight-back to edge out Tiger Woods by just a single shot.

Rose - who memorably won the last two holes at Medinah to beat Phil Mickelson at the Ryder Cup - found himself two behind through 12 holes against Woods.

However, he then turned the contest around in spectacular fashion, with a birdie on the 13th and an eagle on the 14th, where his approach pitched just inches from the hole and span back into the cup.

Both players made birdies at 16 and pars at 17 to ensure Rose led by one going up the last and when Woods missed from 15ft to force sudden death, Rose was assured of a seven-figure payday.

While Friday's winner picks up $1.5million (£935,000), the runner-up collects $1million (£623,000) with Schwartzel and Woods receiving $600,000 (£374,000) for their efforts this week.
