Webb Simpson: New child expected in six weeks
US Open champion Webb Simpson could miss next month's Open Championship.
The 26-year-old shot a two-under-par 68 in the final round at Olympic Club for a one-over total and claimed the victory after his rivals couldn't reach the target.
It will be a double celebration for Simpson as his wife Dowd is expecting their second child in six weeks.
She says her husband may choose to stay at home with the Royal Lytham action starting four weeks on Thursday.
"I don't think he is going to play the British Open just in case I go into labour," she told reporters following Simpson's victory in San Francisco.
"It would make Webb too nervous to hop over the pond and then have to try to get back."
The 26-year-old former Walker Cup player came 16th on his Open debut at Sandwich last summer and was only one off the lead after his first-round 66.
