Fisher claims maiden title

The 22-year-old birded the 16th and 17th to record a closing 69 and pull clear of halfway leader Mikael Lundberg, who in turn was a further two ahead of Fabrizio Zanotti of Paraguay, who carded a 66.

The biggest loser of the day was Fisher's fellow overnight leader Steven O'Hara, who slipped into a four-way tie for fifth with a costly 75 that saw him bogey the last three holes.

Fisher edged ahead with birdies at the 7th, 8th and 9th as Gary Boyd made a move with three birdies to the turn.

But the Scot dropped away with four bogeys in six holes, eventually carding a 72, leaving only Lundberg as a danger with the Swede birdieing the 10th and 11th.

Lundberg (69) forged ahead on the back nine as Fisher wobbled under the pressure, making three bogeys in five holes.

But there was a two-shot swing within minutes as the Englishman got one back on the par-five 16th with Lundberg dropping his only stroke of the day at the penultimate hole.

Fisher duly made birdie there, giving himself a cushion down the closing hole, where the youngster made no mistake.

Fisher had made just four cuts prior to this week, and he admitted: "After the year that I've had it's a relief.

"It just shows what the game of golf can do - how bad it can be and how great it can be.

"To finally have won it feels like now I'm there. I've proven to myself I can win."
