American closing on third PGA Tour win at Reno-Tahoe Open

John Rollins doubled his advantage at the top of the leaderboard with a third-round 67 at the Reno-Tahoe Open. The American's five-under effort took him to 17 under for the tournament, four clear of Ryan Palmer. Starting the day with a two-shot lead after a course-record equalling 62 on Friday, Rollins traded two birdies with two bogeys on the front nine. But he charged home in just 31 further shots, including an eagle at the 11th sandwiched by three birdies. "I told my caddie going to 10, going down the 10th fairway, we just needed to settle down and kind of right the ship and just try to get a good back nine and we'd be in position," said Rollins, who is bidding for his third PGA Tour title. "Sure enough we go out and birdie 10, eagle 11 and then make a great putt on 13 for birdie and then birdied 18 to finish there." Palmer moved into contention with a six-under 66 at the Montreux Golf and Country Club to move to 13 under overall. Joe Ogilvie is a stroke back further back in third and Scotland's Martin Laird alone in fourth at 11 under after respective 66s. Rocco Mediate, without a top-10 finish since he took Tiger Woods to a play-off at the 2008 US Open, shot a second consecutive 68 to move to 10 under, a shot ahead of a trio of fellow Americans - Chris Riley, Robert Garrigus and Shaun Micheel.
