The hospital treating Seve Ballesteros in Madrid have confirmed the five-time major winner is showing signs of improvement following his brain surgery.
The 51-year-old has undergone two operations since being diagnosed with a brain tumour earlier this month.
Ballesteros remains under sedation in intensive care, but has shown signs of progress.
A spokesperson for the La Paz hospital said: "They let him wake up for a short while. He reacted well and then they put him back under sedation again.
"As hours go by it means a bit of recovery."
The Spaniard had an initial operation to remove part of the tumour, but then required a second emergency procedure after a build-up of pressure inside his skull caused a loss of consciousness.
