Spaniard hospitalised after briefly losing consciousness

Seve Ballesteros was admitted to hospital in Madrid on Monday after fainting. The 51-year-old Spaniard was taken to La Paz hospital but was reported to be in a stable condition according to a release from the hospital. The five-time major champion is now undergoing tests briefly lost consciousness after suffering from dizziness. Ballesteros is one of the greats of European and world golf having won the Open Championship on three occasions (1979, 1984 and 1988) and The Masters twice (1980 and 1983). The charismatic Spaniard also has a great Ryder Cup pedigree having taken 20 points from his 37 matches in the event and also captained Europe to victory at Valderrama in 1997. Ballesteros, who has a long history of back pain, officially retired from competition in 2007. No further information on his condition or treatment would be made available under instructions from the Spaniard's family, the hospital said.
