John Daly was disqualified from the Arnold Palmer Invitational after failing to turn up for Wednesday's pro-am.
Daly, who was invited to the event on a sponsor's exemption, told tournament officials he thought his tee-time was at 9.47am rather than 8.40am and was making his way to the course when informed that there was no point in showing up.
His disqualification ended up knocking two other players - Nick O'Hern and Ryuji Imada - out of the tournament.
Imada and O'Hern both thought they were alternates for the afternoon session of the pro-am and, as neither was at Bay Hill when Daly missed his time, were disqualified from playing this week.
"When I should have been on the tee, I was giving my girls breakfast," said O'Hern, who lives only five minutes away.
"I thought common sense would have prevailed. This is a tough one to take. Unfortunately, we got caught up in John's snowball effect."
The Associated Press report that Daly called Bay Hill to ask for his tee time and was told 9:47am by a rules official, which was his starting time for the first round on Thursday. Daly could not be located for comment.
The PGA Tour has a strict policy that anyone missing the pro-am without a vaild excuse cannot participate in the tournament.
Daly's disqualification comes a day after Butch Harmon quit as his swing coach because the two-time major champion - and self-styled 'Wild Thing' - preferred drinking to practicing.
