Scotland's Marc Warren is a shot clear of the field after the first round of the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles.
Warren made eight birdies in a flawless round of 65 on the par 73 Centenary Course to sit pretty at the top of the leaderboard after a desperate run of form.
Last season's Rookie of the Year has been without a top 20 finish for more than three months and he admitted that he had let off some steam to coach Bob Torrance earlier in the week.
"I think it's sometimes easy to forget that Bob is in your corner," said Warren.
"A lot of times players want to take it out on him purely because he is there. The caddie gets it on the course and he gets it on the range.
"On Tuesday we were working away and it wasn't really the way I wanted it to be. I spoke to Bob later that night and we both agreed I was just frustrated the way I had been playing and it came to a head.
"Everything is fine now. He has an obscene talent for watching the golf swing. But he is human and everybody misses things."
Two eagles
Warren's nearest challenger is Nicolas Colsaerts, another man who had been short on form.
The Belgian's round of 66 including three birdies and two eagles, including chipping in for a two on the par-four eighth.
Jeev Milka Singh and Miles Tunnicliff are a shot further back at six-under, while the group of players at five-under includes England's Zane Scotland, who continues to rebuild his career with the aid of a medical exemption.
Thomas Levet, meanwhile, became the second man after Paul Lawrie to begin a round on the European Tour with a hole-in-one.
Levet aced the tenth hole - his first - to follow Lawrie's example in the same event seven years ago. The Frenchman finished the day on four-under.
