Southern Hills right up Woods' street

Watch the action from the USPGA Championship live on Sky Sports 1 from 7pm on Thursday. Tiger Woods is looking forward to returning to Southern Hills as he bids for a 13th major victory in the USPGA Championship in Tulsa starting on Thursday. The world number one looked back to his imperious best of seven years ago when he won the WGC Bridgestone Invitational by eight shots at the weekend. And that should set the 31-year-old up perfectly in his quest for a first major victory in 2007, on a course that hosted the US Open six years ago.

Re-design

"This year I've come close in two, and it just didn't happen," said Woods, reflecting on his second place finishes in the Masters and the US Open. "You never want to be shut out - but I've been in this situation before." The majority of Woods' major successes have come on par-72 courses, where his length becomes a potent asset, but he is looking forward to taking on the re-designed Southern Hills, where par has been reduced to 70 since the Open. "I think all the players will really like it," he added. "The rough is not as high as it was in '01. The only difference is the fairways are narrower. "I always found it to be just an extraordinary golf course and one difficult test. "It really tests your ability to shape shots. You have to manoeuvre the ball both ways, and you also have to hit different trajectories, which is great."
