Kevin Na holds a two-shot lead at the halfway stage of the Crowne Plaza Invitational after firing a four-under 66 in the second round at Colonial.
The 31-year-old American started the day in a four-way tie for the lead on six under and moved three clear of the field by carding five birdies before a bogey at the 18th checked his charge and left him on a 10-under 130.
Na enjoyed the best of the conditions in the afternoon, unlike England’s Ian Poulter who had to endure the cool, wet and windy weather in the morning.
However, Poulter defied the elements to card an excellent three-under 67 which put him in second place on eight under.
Poulter, who opted to play in Fort Worth this week rather than Wentworth, mixed two bogeys with two birdies on the back nine after starting at the 10th, but he made his move on the front nine with birdies at the first, fourth, sixth and eighth before slipping up with a bogey at the ninth.
American Boo Weekley, the 2013 champion who had also been in a share of the lead overnight, is in third place on seven under after overcoming a dreadful start.
The 41-year-old bogeyed four of the first five holes - either side of a birdie at the third - before steadying the ship with four birdies, including one at the 18th, for a one-under 69 which put him on seven under.
American duo George McNeill (69) and Brian Harman (66) are both on six under.
Masters champion Jordan Spieth, another of the overnight co-leaders, was eight under for the tournament after playing 12 holes of his second round.
However, the wheels then came off for the 21-year-old as he followed a bogey at the fourth with a triple-bogey seven at the fifth and another bogey at the ninth left him with a three-over 73 and down the field on three under.
Japan’s Ryo Ishikawa also fell away from six under following a 74, in contrast to defending champion Adam Scott who recovered from his opening 72 with a 66 to leave the pair both on two under, along with Scottish duo Martin Laird (68) and Russell Knox (67).
England’s Paul Casey also made the cut after a 71 left him on level par.
Watch Day 3 of the Crowne Plaza Invitational from 5.30pm on Sky Sports 4 on Saturday - play in the third round has been brought forward due to the threat of bad weather.
