DP World sign new five-year deal to sponsor European Tour Championship

The European Tour has secured the future of the Race to Dubai grand finale after agreeing a new five-year deal with title sponsors DP World.

The Dubai-based global ports operator have extended their association with the season-ending DP World Tour Championship until 2020.

DP World, who began sponsoring the tournament in 2009, also have a significant involvement with a number of other European Tour events, including this week's BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

Henrik Stenson will be bidding for a third straight victory in this year's DP World Tour Championship on the Earth Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates from November 19-22, while Rory McIlroy and Lee Westwood are notable former champions.

The leading 15 players on the Race to Dubai at the end of the tournament will share a $5million Bonus Pool, with the eventual European No 1 taking home $1.25million.

Announcing the new five-year deal during a press conference at Wentworth, His Excellency Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, chairman of DP World, said: "Dubai and the UAE stand at the crossroads of world trade and this cosmopolitan location is a melting pot of talent, expertise and professionalism much like the sport of golf.  We are delighted to be supporting this prestigious event to bring to Dubai the world’s best golfers and their fans.
