Tiger Woods plays 18 holes at Augusta ahead of the Masters

Tiger Woods played a practice round at Augusta National on Tuesday as he nears a decision on whether he will compete in the Masters.

The four-time champion's agent, Mark Steinberg, confirmed that Woods completed 18 holes although it remains unclear if he will tee up in the first major of the year next week.

"Tiger clearly is working hard and he will advise as to when he is ready to play competitively," Steinberg told ESPN.

Woods, who missed the Masters last year due to injury, has not played since pulling out of the Farmers Insurance Open in early February.

Just a week after shooting an 82 - his worst round as a professional - and finishing joint-last at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, Woods completed only 11 holes of his first round at Torrey Pines after aggravating a problem in his lower back.

Woods then announced he would be taking an indefinite break from the game, admitting that his play and scores were "not acceptable" for tournament golf.

He insisted he would not return to action until he felt his game was "tournament-ready", and although he pulled out of the Honda Classic and the Arnold Palmer Invitational, he insisted he remained hopeful of being in the field for the first major of 2015.

More from The Masters 2015

Woods has been working extensively on his all-round game at the Medalist Golf Club near his Florida home, but has not given any indication of when he believes he will be ready to return.

Earlier this week, Woods dropped out of the top 100 in the world rankings for the first time since his rookie season in 1996.

He missed the majority of the 2014 season after undergoing surgery to repair a pinched nerve in his back and has not won a tournament since the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational in 2013.
