Europe's winning players are lining up to praise Paul McGinley

The Welshman struck the shot that sealed an emphatic success for the hosts - his accurate approach at the 15th rubber-stamping a singles win over Keegan Bradley and triggering the start of wild celebrations for Paul McGinley's men that went on into the early hours.

When asked about the celebrations, Donaldson told Sky Sports News: "It was a heavy one. All the guys got together. After a long week, we just had a great time. It was awesome team spirit all week. Paul was inspirational with the captaincy and at the end of the day we did enough to win and that was the most important thing.

"There's so much goes into it. A lot of work has gone into a long week for us. There was two hours practice every day which I don't normally do. By the time the tournament starts, you're shattered already.

"To come out on top is just everything. It's been an incredible experience. I've got a couple of weeks off now to spend time with the kids and just enjoy what's been an awesome success. I'm going to put my feet up and just chill out for a while.

"It was great the Ryder Cup came down to my match. You just dream of these things and it was great to pip Keegan down the stretch. I'll just go home now and enjoy the week."

Paul McGinley guided Europe to a third consecutive Ryder Cup victory

He said: "We spent some time in the main bar with everyone associated with the event and with families and friends of friends of friends.

"From there, we ended up stopping by the US Team Room on the way to bed. We ended up staying there for about four hours - until not long ago actually.

"That's what's cool about the Ryder Cup. They play their heart out on the golf course but then we all have fun together, which is really important.

"There's going to be a kick-back from them. They're still up for it. They don't like losing as they shouldn't. They have a great young team and I think the youngsters will be champing at the bit to right the ship in the coming years."
