Alvaro Quiros: Believes it would be "stupid" to play in South Korea

Alvaro Quiros has called for the Ballantine's Championship in South Korea to be postponed due to the esculating political tension in the region.

North Korea have recently declared war on the South while also threatening to launch a nuclear strike at United States targets following sanctions imposed on nuclear testing by the United Nations.

The threats have forced the United States to increase their military presence in the South, and Quiros believes it would be a "stupid idea" to go ahead with the scheduled European Tour event in Seoul later this month.

"I'm not going to play in Korea," said the big-hitting Spaniard, who has recently returned to action following wrist surgery. "I don't think it's a good moment to go there - it would be a stupid idea with the way things are.

"I don't want to mess with my life just to play in a golf tournament."

Another factor in his decision to skip the tournament is the difficulty in travelling to and from the Blackstone Golf and Country Club at Icheon.

"It is difficult to reach the venue," Quiros added. "It takes one hour to get from the airport to the hotel and you also spend two hours a day travelling back and forth from the course.

"That's one good reason not to go and the political situation is another."
