Formerly called the Los Angeles Open, the tournament has been on the professional golf calendar since 1926 and has been staged at the highly-regarded Riviera Country Club on more than 50 occasions.

This will be the fourth PGA Tour event in five weeks to be held in California but the last in the west coast state until mid-October.

Riviera has also hosted three majors - one US Open and two PGA Championships - the most recent of these in 1995 when Steve Elkington beat Colin Montgomerie in a sudden-death play-off.

And this week two-time winner of the tournament, Fred Couples, will be teeing-up in the event for a record 31st time, overtaking the total compiled by Gene Littler - although not all of the latter's appearances were at Riviera.
