Our pundits debate Europe, USA, the captains, the course and more
Friday 19 September 2014 17:18, UK
Sky Sports has gathered a quartet of golfing greats to preview the 2014 Ryder Cup.
Sam Torrance, the man who guided Europe to victory at The Belfry in 2002 and who will serve as one of Paul McGinley’s vice-captains at Gleneagles, will be in Sky Studios on Sunday night, as will Tony Jacklin, who won three of his four Ryder Cups as captain.
Our esteemed foursome will be rounded off by long-time European talisman Colin Montgomerie and coach to the stars Butch Harmon, with the team set to debate plenty of topics ahead of the start of the Ryder Cup on Friday, September 26.
Here’s what’s on the menu for The Ryder Cup Countdown – Live, which will air at 7.30pm on Sky Sports Ryder Cup (channel 405) and be chaired by David Livingstone:
RORY McILROY – Our panel will debate what impact the World No 1 and two-time Major winner in 2014 will have on proceedings in Perthshire, while we will also hear from the man himself
TEAM EUROPE – Do the home side have the credentials to win a sixth Ryder Cup in seven? Sam and the boys will assess McGinley’s 12 charges, including local lad Stephen Gallacher
TEAM USA – The challengers will be without Tiger Woods at Gleneagles, so which players are likely to fire for Tom Watson’s troop? The gang will talk Mickelson, Mahan, Furyk, Fowler and more
CAPTAINS – Our experts will evaluate the qualities of skippers McGinley and Watson and ponder who may have the edge when it comes to making the crucial decisions come match time
COURSE – Where are the dangers and scoring areas at Gleneagles? What sort of player does the venue suit? How are the greens playing? How perilous is the rough? Our pundits will assess
PREDICTIONS – Will Europe continue their dominance? Will USA come roaring back without Tiger? Will the contest go down to the wire? Sam, Tony, Colin and Butch will reveal their picks
