Speculation over the possibility of Tiger Woods playing at next week's Masters has intensified after his private jet was reportedly seen at an Augusta airport.

The Augusta Chronicle claimed a plane with serial numbers matching that of Woods' Gulfstream jet was parked by the terminal reserved for private aircraft at Augusta Regional Airport on Tuesday morning.

Airport communications manager, Lauren Smith, could not confirm if Woods was on the plane, although she said: "It's not out of the norm for players to come the week before the tournament.”

Other reports in the US media hinted that Woods was scheduled to play a practice round at Augusta National before deciding if his game was in good enough shape to feature in the first major of the season.

The four-time champion, who also missed the Masters last year due to injury, has not played since pulling out of the Farmers Insurance Open in early February.

Just a week after shooting an 82 - his worst round as a professional - and finishing joint-last at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, Woods completed only 11 holes of his first round at Torrey Pines after aggravating a problem in his lower back.

Woods then announced he would be taking an indefinite break from the game, admitting that his play and scores were "not acceptable" for tournament golf.
