The hour-long, three-part knockout session on a Saturday afternoon in which drivers try to set as quick a lap time as possible in order to determine their position on the grid for the start of the next day's race.
The first part of qualifying where all 24 cars take to the track for an initial 20-minute period. Drivers can complete an unlimited number of laps within that timeframe in a bid to set as fast a lap as possible. At the end of the session, the seven slowest cars are 'knocked out' of the running and make up positions 18-24 on the grid.
