Sky Sports F1 pundit Anthony Davidson believes unreliability and mistakes from Red Bull are the only two things that can stop Sebastian Vettel becoming World Champion.

A late surge has seen German rise to the top of the standings as he looks to become the first driver in history to win his first three World titles in a row.

Fernando Alonso is the only driver who can mathematically stop the German taking the Drivers' crown, but Davidson feels the Ferrari is just not a match for the Red Bull.

"Let's not kid ourselves - Vettel is in the best car compared to Alonso definitely," the former Super Augri driver said on The F1 Show.

Sebastian Vettel did hit problems in Abu Dhabi

"I think the only thing that is standing in Vettel's way is reliability and mistakes from the team."

Vettel needs to outscore Alonso by 15 points to take the title in Austin next weekend - something Ant thinks is unlikely to happen.

"I think it is going to go down to the wire - I think it is going to go to Brazil," he commented.

"We have seen mistakes happen, don't forget team personnel are getting tired as well as the engines - they are running out of life quickly the engines.

"So reliability is going to come into it and we have already seen mistakes happen - just look at Vettel's team in Abu Dhabi.

"He has had such a good run of it recently, I can't believe it is going to keep rolling for him - sooner or later the tide has got to turn again."

However, ex-Toyota driver Allan McNish thinks Vettel needs to wrap the title up in Texas, rather than risking the lottery the final race often throws up.

"From my point of view - he has to tie it up in Austin," McNish said.

"The last place I would want to go in a title battle with Alonso is Brazil. In Brazil, Ferrari have historically been good and it can rain.

"If we remember all of the wet races so far this season then Fernando really does come into his own. He is extremely good in these situations."
