Lewis Hamilton says it was important he got back behind the wheel quickly after feeling uncomfortable in the car during Sunday's Spanish GP.

The Mercedes driver qualified on pole and won the race at the Circuit de Catalunya, but told the team during Saturday's session that the changes they had made overnight had made the car worse since the Friday practice.

Hamilton also dismissed speculation his presence in Barcelona when other teams were using test drivers showed how seriously he was taking this season.

"No, it is my job to be here and testing is important for the team to get through some things and also to get back into the car after last weekend when I was really uncomfortable in the car and get it comfortable again was important," he told Sky Sports News.

"It is a good thing that we were able to do it. It can be good for the test drivers to do a bit so they can develop the simulator a bit for us, but it is good to be in the car as every lap you do you learn a little bit more."

Hamilton was forced to dedicate his day in the car during the Bahrain test to Pirelli development work and admits it was useful to have free rein to test upgrades in Spain.

"It was okay. Just a normal test day, a bit better than the tyre test I had in Bahrain so it was a day where I could test some things," he added.

Nico Rosberg will take over the W05 on Wednesday when Mercedes plan to test a louder exhaust.
