Lewis Hamilton hass made peace with Felipe Massa following the season-ending Brazilian Grand Prix.

The duo have endured a long-running feud all season, clashing six times on the track, one of which saw them embroiled in a war of words in Singapore.

Hamilton was at fault on the majority of occasions, however, Massa was the driver penalised in India when the duo again collided.

It appeared, though, as if they would go into the winter with their animosity towards one another continuing to simmer.

However, it was Hamilton who opted to take the lead and bury the hatchet, approaching Massa outside Ferrari's hospitality unit and pulling the Brazilian towards him for a hug.

It resulted in smiles all round, with Hamilton admitting: "It was good to have a nice chat with Felipe after the race.

Hamilton on Massa Quotes of the week

"I have great respect for him and I'm already looking forward to racing him again next year."

Massa said: "I want to say I was pleased Lewis came round to see me while I was talking to the journalists. It was a very nice gesture on his part."

There was the prospect the duo would clash again at Interlagos as Hamilton ran closely behind Massa for a few laps looking to pass.

However, Hamilton was forced to retire on lap 46 with a gearbox issue, depriving the watching public of another spectacle.

McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh is delighted, though, the matter has been laid to rest as he said: "It was nice at the end of the year.

"Even in this race we had the magnetic attraction between Lewis and Felipe which has sometimes gone wrong, and for a few moments we thought it might just happen again.

"Even so, nice at the end of it in an impromptu way for Lewis to have a hug with Felipe.

"I think Felipe accepted it so hopefully that story will now end and we'll move on to a great championship fight for next year.

"The fact is Lewis has been in a much stronger place this weekend, you can see it from his body language even after the disappointment of the gearbox failure.

"He's kept himself in a robust and good frame of mind. We'll have business as normal resumed next year and hopefully we'll deliver a competitive car."

Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali said: "I was very pleased to see Lewis hug Felipe.

"At the end of the day that is what it is all about. It was a good gesture and I am very happy that today this was pretty clear."
