Sergio Perez could miss Friday's practice sessions in India as the Mexican is suffering from a heavy cold.

The Sauber driver was forced to cancel all of his media commitments on Thursday and returned to the team's hotel in an effort to recuperate.

The Swiss team will assess the 22-year-old's condition on Thursday night and, should he be unfit to drive, his misfortune could hand an opportunity to fellow Mexican Esteban Gutierrez.

The 21-year-old is Sauber's reserve driver and after finishing third in GP2 this year, has been hotly tipped to fill the vacancy left at the team in 2013 when Perez moves to McLaren.
