Sauber confirm interest in signing Michael Schumacher for 2013 season

Sauber have confirmed they would be interested in signing Michael Schumacher as a replacement for the McLaren-bound Sergio Perez.

Schumacher is currently without a drive for 2013 after last week's announcement that he will be replaced at Mercedes by Lewis Hamilton. With Perez taking Hamilton's place at McLaren, it appears as if the merry-go-round could be completed in tidy fashion by Schumacher replacing Perez.

"Of course it's nice to think of such a possibility, that we can ask ourselves if we can get a seven-time World Champion when he is on the market," Sauber chief executive Monisha Kaltenborn told German newspaper Bild.

"Michael has until now been with just big stables which we can't compare ourselves to."

Team owner Peter Sauber admitted at the Singapore GP that he would sign Schumacher "immediately" if the former World Champion became available, while Mercedes are believed to have offered the German a management role within the team.
