Adrian Sutil: Manager says talks with Williams about a seat broke down in mid-December

Adrian Sutil's manager Manfred Zimmermann has said that Bruno Senna's move to Williams did not come as a shock, adding that his own driver's talks regarding a race seat at the team came to an end in mid-December.

Following his axing from Force India, Sutil was one of those in the running for the seat at Williams alongside Pastor Maldonado. The German stated last year that he had held talks with the team, but Zimmermann now says it had been known to them for some time that the 28-year-old would not be joining the Grove-based outfit.

"The announcement of Bruno Senna as a Williams driver does not surprise us," he told Motor-Total.com. "For us, that issue was already settled two weeks ago. The negotiations with Williams ended in mid-December due to differing ideas."

It is believed that the length of a potential contract was the stumbling block between the two parties, rather than the allegation of assault for which Sutil must stand trial at the start of next month.

With only one seat left on the grid for 2012, at HRT, Sutil appears set for a spell on the sidelines. Zimmermann has been quoted in the German press as saying that his driver will now use 2012 as a transition year as he positions himself for a drive in 2013.
