Mark Webber is looking forward to racing sports cars for Porsche after he leaves Formula One at the end of this season.

Mark Webber says he made the decision to leave Formula 1 at the end of the season "quite a while" ago.

The Australian revealed on Thursday morning that he will switch to sportscar racing with Porsche in 2014, ending a 12-year stint in the sport, having made his debut in Melbourne with Minardi in 2002.

Webber was keen to play down any impact the announcement will have insisting he is focussing on the British GP.

"It is not big news to me as I have known for quite a while, but it is big news today, so yeah exciting, but I am also looking forward to this weekend," the 36-year-old told Sky Sports News.

"We have had a decent plan in place. So now just looking forward to the British GP - has always been a decent event for me so just focussing on that now."
