The Austrian GP could return to the F1 calendar next season after Red Bull informed the FIA the Red Bull Ring would be available to fill the void left by the cancelled race in New Jersey.

Bernie Ecclestone is keen to add a twentieth race to the calendar, with the German GP brought forward a week to make space for an as yet unnamed European race.

A return to France seems unlikely with neither Magny-Cours nor Paul Ricard willing to finance a race, whilst chances of a Turkish GP in 2013 were dealt a major blow when the government said they would not provide funding.

Thus, the revamped Red Bull Ring in Spielberg could now host its first Grand Prix since 2003 - when it was known as the A1-Ring.

"We have the FIA made aware that there is a track with full F1 license," Dr Helmut Marko told Austrian newspaper Speed Week.

The Red Bull Motorsport Director added that finance could be provided by local and state government and also dismissed fears over a preserved lack of accommodation stating: "Nonsense, there was enough in the 1970s and 1980s."

The circuit has a long history in F1, with the Österreichring hosting the Austrian GP between 1970 and 1987 before returning with a revised shorter layout between 1997 and 2003.
