Ferrari have confirmed that James Allison is to join the team on 1st September in the role of Chassis Technical Director.

Allison's arrival means that Pat Fry, hitherto the Scuderia's Technical Director, will also take on a new title, that of Director of Engineering.

The news that Allison is to join Ferrari was first reported at the weekend, although no official announcement came at the Hungarian Grand Prix as it was thought that contract terms were still being finalised.

Allison, 45, left Lotus in May having served as Technical Director since 2009. He also worked for Ferrari in the late 1990s under then technical boss Ross Brawn.

Returning to Benetton, where he had started his career, in 2000, Allison worked with current Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso when the Spaniard secured back-to-back titles after the outfit became Renault in 2005 and 2006.
