Lewis Hamilton has rejected Sebastian Vettel's complaints about Mercedes' pace at the start of the Monaco GP.

Vettel, who finished the race in second place behind Nico Rosberg after Hamilton misjudged his speed during the first Safety Car period, described the two W04s as "two buses going for a cruise" in the opening stages of the race as both Rosberg and Hamilton sought to protect their rubber from overheating.

The comments, though, have left Hamilton unimpressed.

"Vettel has had the fastest car for the last four years, so it's easy for him to say that," the 2008 title winner told The Daily Telegraph. "We are making our own way up, we are learning, growing and improving, so I don't agree with that."

The furore which erupted on the morning of Sunday's race after news broke of Mercedes' 'secret' three-day tyre for Pirelli has largely overshadowed not only Rosberg's victory but also Hamilton's rather lacklustre display throughout the weekend.

Hamilton admitted after being out-qualified by Rosberg for the third successive race that he is still "struggling" to adjust to the WO4 and, in the wake of his fourth-placed finish in Sunday's race, he was more concerned with his own form than the possibility of Mercedes being punished for running in the Barcelona test.

"We were required to do some work and we did and it was good fun," he said. "Right now I am not concerned about it, that's for the team to worry about. I just have to focus on myself and try and get my act together."
