Chelsea v Arsenal
Last Updated: January 14, 2013 11:29am
It's a London derby with an edge as Chelsea host Arsenal at Stamford Bridge to kick-off Super Sunday on January 20th.
And if it is anything like the corresponding fixture last season then we are in for a west London treat.
The Gunners emerged victorious that day as Andre Villas-Boas' reign at the Bridge showed its first signs of cracking as the Blues were beaten 5-3 in a thriller. Arsenal's hero that day was Robin van Persie as he scored a hat-trick to the delight of the travelling fans. But with RVP long gone, who will be the hero now for Arsene Wenger's side?
That was a problem when the two teams met at the Emirates Stadium in September - with Spanish duo Fernando Torres and Juan Mata on the scoresheet in a 2-1 win for the visitors to inflict Arsenal's first defeat of the season.
It's been a troubled time since then for Wenger and his players as a run of two wins from ten games during the winter has raised familiar question marks about the quality of the squad. Indeed, the Frenchman is in danger of finishing outside the top four for the first time since arriving in north London in 1996.
Chelsea interim boss Rafael Benitez can only dream of such a lengthy stay at his current club. The Blues recently enjoyed a run of nine wins from 11 games but the focus was still on the two intervening defeats and a 2-0 home loss to Swansea in the first leg of their Capital One Cup semi-final has only added to the discontent. Though the Blues bounced back this weekend with a convincing 0-4 victory over Stoke at the Britannia Stadium.
A win on Sunday would go some way to placating the home crowd that have seen their side fail to score in four of their last five home games. The question is, come Sunday afternoon, will it be a Wenger victory or Rafa relief?
