Eintracht Braunschweig picked up their first win of the season as they stunned local rivals Wolfsburg 2-0 at the VW-Arena.

Eintracht Braunschweig stunned the VW-Arena with their first win of the season coming in the home of their local rivals Wolfsburg. Karim Bellarabi and Domi Kumbela earned Braunschweig the sweetest of victories with a 2-0 win just 14 miles away from their own home and with a sizeable support their to witness an historic moment in the club's history. It was their first win in the Bundesliga in 28 years and lifted them off the foot of the table, at least for 24 hours. Braunschweig came into the derby with just one point from their first seven games of the season and the question was more how many goals they would lose by this time rather than whether they would add to their points' tally themselves. It looked like the margin of Wolfsburg's victory would indeed be the main story of the game as Naldo, Diego, Luiz Gustavo and Ivica Olic all tested Daniel Davari. For all their dominance, though, Wolfsburg were unable to make the breakthrough as Braunschweig survived the first half an hour unscathed. The visitors then took the lead against the run of play with a counter-attack with Orhan Ademi sending the ball into the penalty area where Mirko Boland turned it back for Bellarabi to send the large travelling band of fans wild with joy, stunning the home fans to silence. They were understandably shocked since it was only Braunschweig's first shot of the game after being penned back in their own half for the first half an hour, and it was the first time all season that Eintracht had led a game. Wolfsburg continued to attack with Olic missing a hat-trick of chances to bring the hosts level, but the visitors continued to hold on to their lead. Another break resulted in a second goal in the 86th minute with Marco Caligiuri, on the opposite side to his brother Daniel, setting up Kumbela who finally broke his Bundesliga duck to send the visiting support into raptures.
