Image: Diarra: Set for first Hammers start

Team news ahead of Tuesday evening's Capital One Cup second-round clash between West Ham and Crewe at Upton Park.

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce is set to hand his bench players a chance to impress in the Capital One Cup meeting with Crewe. Summer signings Alou Diarra and Modibo Maiga could be in line for their first starts while Nicky Maynard and Ricardo Vaz Te are also in contention. Matt Jarvis may start again on the wing following his debut at Swansea but defender James Collins is set to be rested due to a niggling groin problem. Crewe manager Steve Davis has threatened to ring the changes after a humiliating 5-1 loss to Brentford on Saturday. Forward Max Clayton could be brought into the starting line-up as Davis looks to recover from what he described as the worst performance since he took over in November. Clayton started against Notts County on the opening day of the season in a three-pronged attack alongside Mathias Pogba and AJ Leitch-Smith. But the striker has had to settle for a place on the bench in the Alex's previous two league fixtures, coming on in the second half on both occasions. Elsewhere, Alan Martin will continue to deputise in goal for the injured Steve Phillips, who underwent knee surgery last week. Davis will also be without utility-man Matt Tootle (hip) and forward Michael West (heel).
