And with the club only taking two points from five games in the league, it is expected to be a much-changed side of fringe players and youngsters who feature against West Brom.
Former Reds assistant boss Steve Clarke's hosts are likewise expected to rotate their squad but the Baggies will want a repeat of their 3-0 win over Liverpool on the opening day of the Premier League season.

West Brom midfielder James Morrison is the main, new injury concern for the third round clash.
The Scotland international suffered a hamstring injury during the weekend win over Reading and is rated "doubtful" by Baggies assistant head coach Keith Downing.
Striker Peter Odemwingie (suspended) and winger Jerome Thomas (knee) are again ruled out and several players have knocks which will be assessed before the side is finalised.
Liverpool defenders Martin Kelly and Daniel Agger (both knee) were injured in Sunday's defeat by Manchester United and have been ruled out - the former for several months.
Forward Fabio Borini is unlikely to be risked after sustaining an ankle problem, while Brad Jones will replace Jose Reina in goal.
