Magpies looking for five in a row against Spurs

Tottenham will be hoping to pick up a rare victory against Newcastle when the two sides go head-to-head at White Hart Lane on Sunday. Spurs have won nine of their 20 Premier League matches under Juande Ramos after a disappointing start to the season and now occupy a comfortable mid-table position. They are undefeated in their last eight at home, picking up six wins and scoring in every White Hart Lane fixture. Spurs are the top flight's leading scorers in front of their own supporters with 43, and only league leaders Manchester United (64) have scored more than their 60 in 31 matches this season. However, Newcastle have won the last four meetings between the two sides and have scored three goals on each occasion, including a 3-2 victory in the reverse fixture at St James' Park on 22nd December. Having finally got back to winning ways against Fulham on Saturday, after going 14 without success, the Magpies will be hoping to pull further clear of the drop zone with a positive result in North London. Their recent form on the road would appear to indicate that they may struggle though, after picking up just one point from a potential 21 in their last seven away matches. They have also failed to pick up back-to-back victories since December and have the worst goal difference outside of the bottom three, with a miserable -24.

Changes unlikely

Spurs could welcome Ricardo Rocha back into the first-team fold, but the Portuguese defender continues to struggle with a groin injury. Gareth Bale (ankle) and Benoit Assou-Ekotto (knee) remain long-term absentees and Ramos is unlikely to make too many alterations to the side which recorded an impressive 2-0 victory against Portsmouth last week.
Carr could return
Kevin Keegan will definitely be without Claudio Cacapa (groin) and James Milner (ankle) for the journey south. Turkish midfielder Emre (calf) and first-choice keeper Shay Given (hamstring) also remain on the sidelines, but Stephen Carr could return to action against his former club if he can shake off a hamstring problem in time.
